ProtoFab’s 23 Gallon Stainless Steel early Bronco EFI fuel tank works with 1966-1977 Broncos. This little beauty is sure to turn heads. Made out of 14G brushed stainless steel and TIG welded in house. This early Bronco EFI fuel tank is mounted to the truck with a stock style mounting strap and J-Bolts however you can upgrade to our 10g Skid plate for added protection. If you have a body lift, that can be accommodated for up to 2″. The body lift adapter is also made of stainless steel. Products ship as raw steel.

Compatible Gauges:

The pumps we run are an OEM style 1999-2004 Ford F-150 without Supercharger fuel pump.  If you are running stock early Bronco gauges, please select Ohm range 10 – 73 so that we know to replace the sending unit with a 66-86 Bronco sending unit. If you are using Dakota Digital gauges, they are programmable to work with most Ohm range senders so please order the 16-158 Ohm range. If you have questions, please reach out to us before ordering.

These gauges will not work with our early Bronco EFI fuel tank:

• Autometer –240-33 Ohms is the most common however other ohm ranges are made
• Classic Instruments – 240-33 Ohms (excluding vehicle specific gauge kits which use factory ohm range)
• Dolphin – 0-90 Ohms 
• VDO – 10-180 Ohms

These gauges are known to work with our early Bronco EFI fuel tank:

• Dakota Digital – Programmable to work with most Ohm range senders
• Ford up to 1986 – 10-73 Ohms
• Ford 1987 & up – 16-158 Ohms

Early Bronco EFI Fuel Tank FAQ 

Q: What size is the Filler neck?

A: We use a 1 3/4″ filler neck with a barb fitting on our current early Bronco EFI fuel tanks. Previous tanks were made with a 2″ filler neck.

Q: What size are your pressure and return lines?

A: The pressure line is 3/8″ and the return line is 5/16″. 

Q. Where can I buy a quick connect style fuel line?

A. Dorman makes a hose that you can use. It’s an aftermarket repair part. The part # is 800-054 and it is a 5/16″ Quick Connector, Straight W/ 18″ Of 3/8″ Nylon Tube And A Union”

Q: Are there any baffles in your tank?

A: Yes, there is one baffle in the tank.

Q: What size is your vent tube?

A: We use 1/2″ NPT vent fittings. You can use any tube you want so long as it has the same fitting.

Q: Do you use gaskets and glue on your tanks?

A: Absolutely not. All our tanks are made with O-ring connections. No glue or cork gaskets here.

Q: What EFI Systems work with this tank?

A: Our pump can handle up to a 400 HP motor. We recommend running a FiTech system however many various systems have been used. (We are in the process of testing out the Jegs Fuel Injection kit on our 400 and will update the site if its a go as soon as we know)

Q: What fuel pump do you use in your tanks?

A: We use an OEM style 1999-2004 Ford F-150 without Supercharger fuel pump.

Q: What is the PSI of the 1999-2004 Ford F-150 w/o Supercharger fuel pump?

A: This OEM style pump is capable of pushing 70 PSI. The PSI at the fuel rail for this stock system is 30 to 45 due to pressure regulators (The 99-04 trucks usually operate at 40 PSI and about 35 PSI in an idle, though this can vary with multiple variable components). This pump is good for motors producing up to 400 HP. If you are concerned that this pump is not enough for your EFI system, your BEST BET is to try the pump that we supply first (you don’t need to fill your tank completely full while testing it out.) If you are having issues after you have tried the supplied pump, then you can try swapping out the in tank pump for a higher pressure pump or adding an inline pump in addition to our pump. You just want to be careful because if you put a higher pressure pump in, and your system doesn’t need it, you risk burning the whole thing down.

Q: What fittings do you use on the fuel pump in your early Bronco EFI fuel tank?

A: Modern OEM style high pressure fittings with NO HOSE CLAMPS. They are push connect.

Q: Is the pump mounted to the tank with sheet metal screws?

A: No. Our pumps are mounted with machined 1/4 – 20 stainless steel bungs and hardware which means there are no metal chips in our tanks from sheet metal screws.

Q: Is your tank ready to install from the box?

A: Yes. Our early bronco EFI fuel tanks are completely assembled and ready to be installed as soon as you get it.

Q: How does the body lift adapter work?

A: The adapter sits between the body of the truck and the tank so that when you mount the tank, it is in the correct location for the strap to work.
