NOT included in the basic kit:  High pinion Dana 44 Axle, Heim Joints for Radius Arms, Radius Arm C-Cups, Radius Arm C-Bushing kit, Steering set-up, 78-79 Bronco coils and bottom coil buckets and retainers (unless you are running a coilover set up.) You can add most of these components to the basic Bronco Solid Axle Swap kit with our add-on options.

Shock Tabs *

Choose no shock tabs, single or dual tabs for your radius arms.

Heim Joints *

By adding joints, you are adding a PAIR of Panhard 1 1/4 -12 x 5″ (9/16 Bore) Chromoly Rod Ends for your radius arms.

Steering Component *

Converting over to the Chevy 1-ton steering is the BEST option in our opinion, though you do have to re-machine your Ford knuckles to make them knuckle-under. If you are interested in the 1-ton steering but do not have the means of re-machining your knuckles, we may be able to do it for you. Please contact us for a quote. By adding the Chevy 1-Ton steering, you are adding a custom-made steering set-up made from DOM and GM Tie Rod ends.
The second-best option is 78-79 Bronco steering. By adding this option, you add a 78-79 to 80-96 Bronco Conversion Drag Link, 78-79 Bronco Right Outer Center Link, Adjusting Sleeve and a Drop Pitman Arm.

C-Cup Bushings *

You will need to have the correct degree of castor based on the lift you are running. For example, if you are running a 3-6″ lift, you will likely need a 4 degree bushing. By adding this option, you are adding 4 bushings of your choice. NOTE: You need to AT LEAST run a 4″ lift in order to use our SAS Kit.

Coil Set-Up *

If you aren’t going to run coilover shocks, you will need 78-79 Bronco coils. You will be able to use the upper coil buckets already on your truck, but you may need to weld on some lowers. Some D44 still have them, some have been cut off. Note: If you’re doing a D60 with coil set-up, you will need the coil buckets and retainers to weld to your axle.

Our Bronco Solid Axle Swap Kit (SAS) back!

This Bronco Solid Axle Swap Kit is ideal for the full-size Bronco owner that wants to ditch their TTB suspension. This kit is bolt-on but does require some welding. We designed it to use factory holes to help with placement of the parts however a few of the parts need to be welded AND bolted to your frame. We designed it this way so you never have to worry about it cracking and breaking off the frame. This kit is designed to be used with a high pinion Dana 44 however, it can be used on any axle as long as you weld C-Bushing Radius Arm Mounts to the axle you are going to use (Note: You will also need Ford’s 78-79 coils and coil buckets unless you plan on running a coilover set up). This means if you want to run a Dana 60, you can still use this kit! We made it easy for you to finally do that swap you have been meaning to do, so start swapping my friend!

Things to know about ProtoFab’s Bronco Solid Axle Swap Kit

When you use our Bronco Solid Axle Swap kit, be sure you have AT LEAST 4″ of suspension lift on your Bronco.

You will need to have the correct degree of castor based on the lift you are running. For example, if you are running a 3-6″ lift, you will likely need a 4 degree radius arm c-bushing.

You have to run a Drop Pitman arm and a conversion drag link that allows you to adapt your 1980-96 half-ton pitman arm to 1978-79 half-ton tie rod ends.

Not all High Pinion D44 are created equal. Get the best for your Bronco Solid Axle Swap!

The BEST HP Dana 44 was offered in a variety of  f-series trucks or Broncos (as long as they were produced in 1978 or1979). If you use a HP D44 produced before 1978, you want to make sure they aren’t set up with leaf spring perches and that the wedge is already welded on the axle. If it is set up with leaf spring perches, that’s ok, you just need to add coil buckets to it.  Unfortunately, early Bronco axles will not work for the Full Size Solid axle swap as they are too narrow.
